On Saturday, September 21st, Shohei Mitani, a jazz DJ who has been active since the late '80s and remains at the forefront of jazz, will be spinning Jazz Samba. Enjoy vintage Brazilian jazz. We'll be open as usual.
Shohei Mitani (Novo Tempo/Blue Cafe)
Since my 20s, I've been spinning jazz, Brazilian, Latin, and soul music. He hosted Blue Cafe at Shimokitazawa Zoo, where many cool bands performed on Sunday afternoons, with Love Tambourines being a particularly popular band.
Active in the free soul scene, he co-hosted "Free Soul Underground," an event hosted by Toru Hashimoto, alongside Kei Kobayashi and Takeji Matsuda. He currently hosts the popular "Blue Cafe" event at Shibuya Organ Bar with Masataka Suzuki (April Set) and Satoki Azuma (S.C.O.F.). He was also a resident DJ at "Escola do Jazz" at Sapporo Precious Hall.
He also selects tracks for cable, FM, and television programs such as "Usen for Cafe Apres-Midi,"
and writes CD liner notes and disc guides.
He also produces music as a member of Novo Tempo and Ritmo Fantastico.
His collaborative work with Koichi Ozaki, released on the Eurasian Suite label in August 2004, was played by renowned Western DJs such as Gilles Petterson and garnered high praise overseas.
