What is Calvados?

Calvados is a brandy made from apples and pears in the Normandy region of France.
After harvesting the apples, the juice is extracted, then fermented to produce alcohol, which is then distilled and refined.

It has a distinctive fresh apple aroma and flavor, and a mellow taste. It is typically drunk on the rocks or neat, but is also used as an ingredient in cocktails. It is also used as an after-dinner drink, or in apple-flavored sauces and desserts.

Where does the name Calvados come from?

The name Calvados comes from the name of a place in the Normandy region of France. In Normandy, there is an area called Calvados, where apple cultivation is thriving. It is said that brandy made from apples produced in Calvados later came to be called "Calvados." Only brandy made in this region is allowed to use the name "Calvados."
